Holi Hai !

This is the mythological story about Indian festival Holi.
Holi is the festival of colour, which is celebrated in the month of Feb – march (Phalguna).

People celebrate Holi with colours and do bonfire.

According to the legend, once there lived a powerful demon king Hiranyakashyap, who considered himself a god and wanted everyone to worship him.

But to his disappointment, his son Prahlad was an ardent devotee of Lord Vishnu,

Hiranyakashyap asked Prahlad to stop praying Lord Vishnu. But Prahlad was a great devotee he refused to worship his father.

At last Hiranyakashyap planned to kill his own son.

Hiranyakashyap had one sister, her name was Holika. She had a boon to remain unscathed by fire.

Hiranyakashyap asked his sister to enter a blazing fire with Prahalad in her lap. Holika agreed to him and she took Prahalad in her lap and entered the fire.

Prahalad chanted the Lord Vishnu name and came out of the blaze unscathed, but the Holika was burnt to ashes, her boon turned to evil for her.

Lord Vishnu saved his ardent devotee Prahalad.

This festival marks the victory of good over evil.

Thus the name of the festival came from the burning of Holika…. Holi Hai … 🙂 🙂

A greedy Dog

Once upon a time, there lived a dog, he was a greedy dog.
One day he was looking for some food. So he was sniffing all over the places.

Suddenly he smelled something good near a house. It was a butcher man’s house.

The dog mouth watered, he could not control himself and he went inside the house.

The butcher man was good enough and he gave a big bone to the dog. The Dog was very happy to have the bone.

But before he takes a bite, he thought to himself “if somebody sees me here with this bone then I will have to share this bone with them, I should go and eat this bone at some quiet place “.

So he began searching some quiet place. He saw a shade at the other end of the bridge built on a river.

Holding the bone in his mouth, he ran towards the bridge.

While crossing the bridge, he saw his own reflection in the river water. The foolish dog thought that some other dog is carrying the bone in his mouth like him.

As he was very greedy, he thought to himself, “It would be great, if I get the other bone, then I will be the luckiest dog”.

And then he barked on his reflection “woof! Woof! ““Splash and his bone fell down in the river”.

Dog realised that it was his own reflection that was carrying the bone. Because of his greediness, dog lost his own bone.

He cried and then he promised to himself that he will not be greedy anymore and will be satisfied with whatever things he has.

Birth story of Lord Ganesha

This is a mythological tale about the birth of Lord Ganesha. Lord Ganesha is the son of goddess Parvati and Lord Shiva. One day Goddess Parvati was going for a bath. As she didn’t want to be disturbed, she told Nandi (Lord Shiva’s Bull) to guard the door and asked him not to allow anyone to come inside the house.

Nandi said ok, and stood at the door. But when lord Shiva came home, Nandi didn’t stop him to go inside, as he was very loyal to lord Shiva.

Parvati was very angry and upset to the fact that she had no one as loyal as Nandi was to Shiva.

So she created Ganesha idol from the turmeric paste (used for bathing) and gave life to the idol using her powers and declared him as her son.

Next day when Parvati was going to take bath, she asked his son Ganesha to guard the door and let no one come inside. Ganesha took his duty and stood at the door.

When Lord Shiva came home, Ganesha said that his mother is taking bath and no one is allowed to go inside the house.

Lord Shiva was unaware about the existence of Ganesha. He got furious that an unknown boy is telling him that he could not enter his own house.

Furious Shiva asked his armed man to destroy the boy, but they all failed in front of powerful Ganesha.

Seeing this Lord Shiva decided to fight with Ganesha. During the fight, Lord Shiva severed the Ganesha head, and killed him instantly.

Goddess Parvati got very furious when she came to know about the fight between his son Ganesha and Lord Shiva.

She asked Lord Shiva to give her son back. Lord Shiva’s anger was cooled down by this time and he realised his mistake, but he was unable to join the same head to the Ganesha’s body.

So he went in search for a head. But he could not find any suitable head.

At last he found an elephant sleeping opposite to his mother elephant in different direction.

Lord Shiva took the elephant head and placed it over the Ganesha’s body and gave life to him.

And he declared Ganesha as his son and gave him the status of foremost among all the gods.

Two Goats

two goats.JPG

One day a goat was crossing a bridge built over a river. The bridge was very narrow and at a time only one person / animal could walk on it.

When the goat was at the half way of the bridge, she saw another goat was coming from the opposite side of the bridge.

The first goat asked the second goat to go back and give place to cross the bridge. The second goat also asked the same to the first goat.

Both the goats were adamant, and were not ready to go back and give place to each other.

They quarrelled for some time, and then they started fighting with their horn. And at last they both fell down from the bridge and drowned into the river.

Later that day, one more goat was crossing the same bridge, when she was at half way of the bridge; she found another goat was coming from opposite side of the bridge.

At first both the goats asked each other to go back and give place to the other to cross the bridge. But none of them agreed.

The first goat thought for a moment and said “let us try some other way, I will lie down on the bridge and you can safely walk over me and can go to the other side”. The second goat agreed to the first goat.

When the first goat lay down on the bridge, the second goat quickly walked over the first goat and went towards the other side of the bridge. Then the first goat got up and went to the opposite end of the bridge. And by this way they both crossed the river safely.

Lion and a Fox

lion and a fox.JPG

Once upon a time, there was a beautiful forest. Lots of animals like cow, elephant, zebra, monkey, lion, tiger, and jackal were living there. Due to some reasons their king died suddenly, so they all were looking for a suitable candidate as their king.

After a lot of discussion, animals decided to crown Lion as their king.

They also discussed that proper training should be provided to the lion, so that he will be able to take care of the forest.

Now the next search was to find a suitable trainer for the lion.

There lived an old but intelligent fox in that forest. Animals asked the fox, if she can provide training to the lion. The fox agreed to provide the training.

From that day onwards, fox started giving training to the lion. She taught several skills to the lion. She taught running, swimming, crossing, hunting, attacking and defending etc.

With each passing day, lion learned lots of skills from the fox.

As compared to the fox, lion was young and energetic, so his moves and attacks were sharper than the fox.

On the final day of the training, lion thought that “other animals consider this fox very intelligent, and now for my capabilities, they will give credit to the fox. I am very strong; if I kill this fox then I will be the only intelligent animal in this whole forest”. Lion roared and went near the fox.

Fox knew that lion is going to hurt her, so she quickly climbed up to a tall tree.

Lion tried to climb the tree, but he was unable to do that.

Lion realised that fox has not taught climbing to him. He said very politely “oh my dear teacher, I was checking if you have taught everything, but I found that, you didn’t teach How to climb tees“.

Fox replied that “Lion, I knew, one day you will come to destroy me to become a super power, that’s why I didn’t teach you my last stake, else I would not survive”.

Lion tried to convince the fox with his innocent talks, but fox was clever enough to save her own life.

Later Lion became the king of the jungle, but he knew everything except climbing trees, he realised his mistake, but it was too late.
